it seems really strange but we've already been here for a month. seems like we've been here for ages - melbourne is a great city.
we've settled in really well and within a week of being here, had found ourselves a fab flat in north melbourne (about 15 mins from cbd). fully furnished and everything brand new including sheets, towels, dishwasher and dvd!! It's also just down the road from queen victoria market which does the most amazing fresh fish, meat and fruit and sells just about anything you could want.
we have done some touristy things as well:
- wandered round St Kilda - staring at the fantastic cakes they do here (we've managed to resist them as they all seem to be covered in nuts - poor simon)
- afl grand final (aussie rules final) for our first weekend here at our friends, drinking beers, eating pies and watching the footie. didn't quite understand the rules but it seemed as long as you bash someone, get the ball and kick it between the posts - it's ok!
- visited the mcg before the north stand gets knocked down for the commonwealth games developments. absolutely huge with lots of cricketing history -can't wait to see the boxing day test there
- a fab day wine tasting in the yarra valley: we now know how to taste wine properly and what to look out for (slurpping and all). even visited the moet and chandon winery out here too - fantastic day getting tipsy
meanwhile we have been eagerly working on the job hunting - signing up with lots of agencies to do all sorts of work. simon is currently a 'planning assistant' for a hobby and crafts company, whilst I'm still a lady of leisure. i did manage to work a few shifts in the kitchen of our local pub but it's looking like they have someone else. we do have work at the melbourne cup carnival in early november which should be fun. the melbourne cup is the equivalent of the grand national and everyone goes - so we'll get paid to be there!
most importantly, simon has had his first gig after the records finally arrived in the country. yet to hear whether he is through to the next round - hopefully early next week.
we've had our first night clubbing oz style, going to lee burridge on friday night. fun night; making lots of new friends and ending up in the suburbs somewhere at 7am in the morning trying to get home! some things never change eh?
and that's about it! we're off to the england v samoa game next sunday so keep an eye out for us.
