I got made redundant at the end of february. no bad thing as i have spent some great times with the family being able to catch bethan growing up. today i watched her proficiently picking up peas!

last day on the isle and we want to try and make a good start. up and over to ryde to try and get an early ferry. no such luck so we loiter in ryde for a bit. eventually we make it back to the mainland a start the long drive north.home eventually to the usual pile of junk mail and freesheets. an uneventful end to a fantastic summer break...

an odd start to the day as i'm not very well. simon gets on with some school work whilst i go back to bed. resurface at 12.30pm to lots of sunshine and feeling much better. finally get moving to explore ventor although everything seems to shut at 4pm. beers at the spyglass and niton inn, with scrabble and cricket to finish.

another glorious day so we head out in the car to west wight and a walk on tennyson down, overlooking freshwater bay and the needles. brilliant sunshine and great views. a quick pint at the sun inn (hulvestone) before heading back home. food at the taverners in the evening - traditional home made faggots for me and duck for alison. lovely!

first walk of the holiday: round godshill via appludurcombe house. beautiful weather, beautiful views. quick pint then more chilling... it's been a tough day (not!). it's finished off with red squirrels and a woodpecker in our back garden - wow!

a chilled morning of reading the paper followed by an early lunch. we then 'hit' godshill... not a lot to it although it is very pretty/chocolate-box-esque. a walk through town to shop at godshill organics - brilliant shop. evening meal at the Loaves and Fishes - great food!

no packing done prior, so we run around in the early morning filling bags, but amazingly on the road by 10am. good journey down through the new forest which was very pretty. early ferry then onto the IoW. Easily find godshill park farm and the cottage, especially with a chocolate cake for our arrival and a fantastic organic box from godshill organics... looks like a promising week...

haven't been too good at going walking recently, but do manage an excellent walk today. up early with the spring sunshine for 9 miles around the tissington trail. hardly anyone around - just lovely. and a quick pint at the end makes it even better. must try and get out more often before things change...
