dorset 08 : day 6

its not raining... but nor is it sunny. we have a day of trips to Axminster planned so we fight our way onto the bus passed all the free bus pass waving pensioners!

Its market day in axminster, but there really isn't a lot to the place at all and an hour later we are back on the bus to Lyme regis for some lunch. back to charmouth after lunch for a snooze and some shopping at IDAs.

then it is back on the bus to axminster for a meal at the river cottage canteen - very tasty seasonal food and a great price - thanks hugh.

dorset 08 : day 5

no rain... vaguely... so walking today: charmouth-uplyme-ware-undercliffs-lyme-home. more beautiful rolling countryside, peace and quiet and thought of john fowles' the french lieutenant's woman.

yummy ice cream pitstop on the front, obligatory disco kip at the cottage before the final scrabble challenge session of the holiday at the george.

dorset 08 : day 4

Rain - proper rain as well, so we head to Lyme Regis for a day of being tourists. A 'no correct change' car park crisis means we head off to the Lyme Regis Winery first and pick up a couple of country wines.

back to lyme and a visit to the working water mill, a stroll round the shops and lunch at the town bakery. After lunch we walk along to the cobb but the rain is relentless, so we head back home for soup, scrabble and an early night.

dorset 08: day 3

it's not raining so walking today: charmouth to seatown via golden cap. beautiful rolling countryside with the bay looking lovely.

lunch in seatown at the anchor inn: fish and chips for simon, bouilliaisse for me - both fantastic and washed down with palmers (coopers ale and best bitter). resist temptation to stay all afternoon and yomp home.

outrageous two hour disco kip before tea and listening to andy murry battle to no avail at the us open tennis final.

Dorset 08 : Day 2

It's not raining! We have a lazy morning in the cottage then a stroll through charmouth and down to the beach. A bit of a wander along towards Lyme Regis - no fossils. A quick look at the fossil centre to find out what we should be seeing. Back into 'town' and have a fantastic sunday lunch at The Old Bank Cafe - a bargain £7.95 all in... and BYO so a cheeky white is consumed. A discokip back at the cottage then a stroll along the beach the other way - this time success on finding fossils.

It didn't rain all day!

dorset 08: day 1

manage to pack and get en route by 10am. Not joined by Linds, Nes and bump as the bump's not too good. raining all the way down to dorset, so have a wet drive down through the cotswolds and bath - v pretty.
arrive to a very sweet cottage in Charmouth, up a very steep hill. dinner at the mariners hotel in lyme regis. quite random: old school pub on the outside, naff 70s hotel bar to wait in, dinning room very modern restaurant with great food... odd.
our first night is finished off with a pint at the george back in charmouth

its raining its pouring

24hr streaming internet radioits raining... must be because it is the start of our late summer holiday. atrip into town for some lunch at iberico - great food, g+t and wine... and a star spot - hello marcus james (renaissance dj). Its still raining when we leave the restaurant and head back to home for some chores and a haircut. a cheeky pint at the vic before heading home (in the rain) to back ready for tomorrow. I manage to do a quick hour and a half 'weekend warm-up' on purple radio in the evening - much fun!
