lakes day 2 - scafell

wow! there is at least 10cm of snow on the ground in valley... so its going to be quite deep on the tops.

we are walking by 9am, direct from the door of the Langstrath and up a quiet valley. the snow is pretty but it makes it impossible to find small paths... so our ascent up onto 'the tops' is a little fraught - a scramble up snow covered scree was not what was planned. once we are up to esk hause the walking gets a little easier, although the wind is biting and snow/ice is still flying around.

after many more ups and downs we eventually get to the summit... then it is time to turn around and get back. some more tuff navigating over snow covered ground eventually gets us back down and back to the langstrath... just in time for tea.

9 hours of walking... tough conditions but well worth it. 2 down, 1 to go!

lakes day 1

we stopped just north of bradford last night... so we complete our trip to the lakes by about lunchtime. we managed a stop at the best cheese shop on the way through kirby lonsdale - great stuff.

we managed a short 'warm up' walk over cat-bells before heading to the langstrath inn for some food and fine ales!

it definitely looks like it will snow overnight so scafell could be interesting!

To the Lakes

We're off to the Lake District today for Part Two of our 3 Peak Challenge and to climb Scafell. Not feeling too great and it looks like it could be snow....

Super Saturday at the Six Nations: 3 great games scheduled which we watch round at Steve & Zoe's in Ruddington with their big screen tv. Great games; Wales win and it's another renaissance in Welsh rugby!

Old friends

More catching up with old friends last night, as emma and david elder stopped on their way back north. good to chat although probably too much red wine for a sunday evening. oops!

A Godmother

OMG! I'm going to be a godmother to Bell Clarke. Was asked whilst at dinner at Rachel & Chris's last night. I think we all cried. I guess I'll become more useful as she gets older rather than knowing what to do with a baby.

go! team played at nottingham trent uni tonight on the promotional tour for their new album. loads and loads of energy from all the band and it was great to hear some new stuff. It has to be said though that it all got a bit 'samey' after a while... so we bailed out before the end. probably should have gone to see duffy at the social!
